STATEMENT OF INTENT
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
My brief is to create two lifestyle magazine issue covers and contents pages aimed at 16-25year olds, and in my case a niche audience of 16-25 females and a website. My magazine isn't a specific area of lifestyle, its general life and all the things which come with it, I.e., fashion, news, makeup, travel, or music. The ideas that i wanted to convey in my front covers were similar to that of cosmopolitan magazines, using similar codes and conventions to show the intertextual references from the covers and contents of cosmopolitan. e.g.
The representation of females with a celebrity background who are trending at the time of the issue release, and in those covers the Mise en scene used would be trendy fashionable clothing (costume) for women glam hair and makeup. This representation is to appear to the audience as aspirational to being famous. The cover/ sell lines mention the celebrity in the cover sometimes with a cover stories about them drawing the reader to find out more especially if they are already a fan of the celebrity on the cover. I have chosen to use bright colours conventionally used for girls i.e. pink and purple as the main covers, keeping with a theme of colours for an aesthetic appearance in both covers. I also considered the cover stories and typography which would attract a feminine audience, with a mix of tall slim and cursive fonts in contrasting colours to background to make the text bold and classy to suggest my magazine is sophisticated along with fun because I think this also attracts my target audience. The models in my covers, will look glamorously into the camera with confidence no higher or lower than the reader suggesting equality as this will inspire the audience to want to read more. My products purpose is therefore to inspire woman, give them advice and information from aspirational women themselves to boost their confidence, I believe this will generate revenue as it puts celebrity and 'normal' women on the same level and young women need this to help inspire themselves. along with the fact that my target audience will be attracted to buy this magazine seeing the relatable content and stories and aesthetic covers which advertise the brand contemporary successfully.
product 2
The website brief states that i need at least two pages, an audio-visual element, two original images one on each page (at least) and appropriate media language. Using the brief I will create a lifestyle website again aimed at 16-25 females and have similar representations to cosmopolitan's website. For example the layout and media language, cosmopolitan stick to a couple main fonts one being Franklin Gothic Extra Condensed which is consistently used throughout and therefore establishes their brand, so I will stick to similar font themes throughout my website to emphasise my brand as well. The layout of the website is easy to navigate it is mainly scrolling with different pages and access to them through menu bar, mine will be similar to this as i think it is a good layout and with the other imagery and aesthetics, it makes it enjoyable to scroll through which is appealing to a younger audience. There is a lot of imagery on the cosmopolitan website all images are symmetrically placed to compliment text and stories to click on helping the reader see the story clearer and know whether to click on it. I will display this by having a link to another page on a story with an image to influence to reader to click to access my second page.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)
I will establish a clear link of convergence within my products by being consistent with themes, colours, fonts, etc to establish my brand and its visible similarity to cosmopolitan. This visual similarity will be comfortable for the audience. I will stick to this theme through the covers, contents, and website. The website is where I will further converge the products by featuring the stories on the covers on the website my audio-visual element being the model from issue 1 'celebrity' interview with Eliza Stephens.
